General Principles

Journal of TAM Academy uses the English name "Journal of TAM Academy" and the abbreviation "TAMDE". Throughout this document, the abbreviation TAMDE will be used to refer to Journal of TAM Academy.

  • TAMDE is an international peer-reviewed journal published by the Center for Social Research.
  • TAMDE publishes two issues per year, in May and November. Published exclusively electronically, all processes for TAMDE are conducted through tamde.org.
  • Article submissions to TAMDE through tamde.org are always open. However, due to editorial board workload and/or lengthy peer review processes, the evaluation process for articles may take up to 3 months.
  • Works that complete the evaluation process are selected by the editorial board for publication in the appropriate issue.
  • TAMDE is committed to implementing publication ethics at the highest standards and following the guidelines prepared by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
  • Authors bear all legal and scientific responsibility for the content of articles published in TAMDE.
  • Journal of TAM Academy defines Open Access in light of the principles defined by the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) and adopts BOAI's open access definition. In this context, TAMDE does not request any financial or moral fees from authors for the processing and publication of articles during the application process.
  • Each article published in TAMDE after the evaluation process is assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) number.
  • Upon author's request, a signed "Acceptance Certificate" is sent for articles accepted for publication.
  • TAMDE uses information such as names, titles, and email addresses shared during tamde.org membership only for the stated purposes of this journal; it does not use them for any other purpose or make them available to others. However, events such as symposiums, congresses, conferences, or talks organized by the Center for Social Research will be communicated to email addresses shared during membership. If you do not wish to be informed about events organized by the Center for Social Research, please contact editor@tamde.org.
  • The "Copyright Transfer Form" must be completed and signed by all authors and uploaded to the journal system along with the article. By signing the form, TAMDE owns all publication rights of articles published at the end of the evaluation process.
  • Articles submitted to TAMDE must not have been previously published or accepted for publication in another publication outlet. Otherwise, all responsibility belongs to the author(s). The relevant article will be withdrawn by the editorial board.
  • TAMDE accepts works derived from theses, presentations, or proceedings in addition to research articles. However, they must meet the following conditions:
    • If the work is derived from a presentation, the title of the presentation, name of the event, date, and location information should be added to the article description.
    • If the work is produced from graduate theses, the name of the thesis, advisor's name, university and institute information, and completion date of the thesis should be specified in a footnote.
    • If the work is supported by a research institution or fund, the name of the supporting organization, project number, and completion date information should be specified in a footnote.

Ethical Principles for Authors

TAMDE has utilized the guidelines and policies published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in defining the ethical duties and responsibilities below.

  • TAMDE accepts original works by author(s).
  • Author(s) must cite the works they have benefited from completely and accurately using APA 7th edition.
  • Individuals who have not made intellectual contributions to the content in the creation of the work should not be listed as authors.
  • Any situations and relationships that may constitute a conflict of interest in all works submitted for publication must be disclosed.
  • Raw data related to their articles may be requested from author(s) within the framework of evaluation processes; in such cases, author(s) are obliged to provide the expected data and information to the editor and editorial board.
  • Author(s) must have the rights to use the data used, necessary permissions for research/analyses, or documentation showing that consent has been obtained from experimental subjects.
  • If author(s) notice an error or mistake in their published, early view, or evaluation-stage work, they are obliged to inform the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor in correction or withdrawal processes.
  • Authors cannot submit their work to the application process of multiple journals at the same time. Each application can be initiated following the completion of the previous application. Work published in another journal cannot be submitted to TAMDE.
  • Changes to author responsibilities (such as adding authors, changing author order, removing authors) cannot be proposed for a work whose evaluation process has begun.

Ethical Principles for Editors

Editors are responsible for all content published in TAMDE. In this responsibility context, editors must fulfill the following roles and obligations:

  • Making efforts to meet the information needs of readers and authors
  • Ensuring that every article published in TAMDE is published in accordance with TAMDE publication policies and international standards
  • Continuously ensuring the development of the journal
  • Conducting processes to improve the quality of works published in the journal
  • Supporting freedom of thought
  • Ensuring academic integrity
  • Continuing business processes without compromising intellectual property rights and ethical standards
  • Demonstrating clarity and transparency in terms of publication on issues requiring correction and clarification

Editors' Relationship with Readers

Editors should make decisions taking into account the knowledge, skill, and experience expectations needed by all readers, researchers, and practitioners. They should ensure that published works contribute to readers, researchers, practitioners, and scientific literature and are original in nature. Additionally, editors are obliged to consider feedback from readers, researchers, and practitioners, and provide explanatory and informative feedback.

Editors' Relationship with Authors

Editors' duties and responsibilities towards authors are as follows:

  • Editors should make positive or negative decisions based on the importance, original value, validity, clarity of expression, and the journal's purpose and scope.
  • Works that comply with the publication scope and writing rules should be taken to the peer review stage.
  • Editors should not ignore positive peer review recommendations unless there is any problem with the work.
  • Newly appointed editors to a work should not change decisions made by previous editor(s) unless there is any problem.
  • Editors must implement the "Double-Blind Peer Review and Evaluation Process" and resolve problems that may occur in defined processes.
  • Authors should be provided with explanatory and informative notifications and feedback.

Editors' Relationship with Reviewers

Editors' duties and responsibilities towards reviewers are as follows:

  • Reviewers should be determined according to the subject of the work.
  • They are obliged to provide the information and guides that reviewers will need during the evaluation stage.
  • They must monitor whether there is a conflict of interest between authors and reviewers.
  • They must keep reviewers' identity information confidential within the framework of the Double-Blind Peer Review principle.
  • They should encourage reviewers to evaluate the work in an impartial, scientific, and objective language.
  • They should determine practices and policies that increase reviewers' performance.
  • They should take necessary steps for dynamic updating of the reviewer pool.
  • They should prevent discourteous and unscientific evaluations.
  • They should take steps to ensure the reviewer pool consists of a wide range.

Editors' Relationship with Editorial Board

Editors should inform editorial board members about publication policies and keep them informed of developments. In this context, they should proceed with the editorial board in accordance with journal publication policies and guidelines. Additionally, editors;

  • Should ensure that editorial board members evaluate works impartially and independently.
  • Should determine new editorial board members who can contribute and are appropriately qualified.
  • Should send works appropriate to editorial board members' areas of expertise for evaluation.
  • Should be in regular interaction with the editorial board.
  • Should organize meetings with the editorial board at certain intervals for publication policies and journal development.

Editors' Relationship with Journal Owner and Publisher

The relationship between editors and publisher is based on the principle of editorial independence. The journal owner, publisher, and no other political and commercial elements should affect editors' independent decision-making.

Ethical Principles Editors Must Follow in the Evaluation Process

Editors should be pioneers for the evaluation process in accordance with the "Double-Blind Peer Review" principle included in journal publication policies. Additionally, editors ensure the completion of a fair, impartial, and timely evaluation process for each work.

Editors' Protection of Personal Data

Editors are obliged to ensure the protection of personal data related to subjects or visuals included in evaluated works. They are obliged to reject the work unless individuals used in the works have documented explicit consent. Additionally, editors are responsible for protecting the individual data of authors, reviewers, and readers.

Editors' Request for Ethics Committee Approval and Protection of Intellectual Property Rights

Editors must request ethics committee approval from the following works:

  • All kinds of research conducted with qualitative or quantitative approaches requiring data collection from participants using survey, interview, focus group study, observation, experiment, interview techniques
  • Use of humans and animals (including materials/data) for experimental or other scientific purposes
  • Clinical research conducted on humans
  • Research conducted on animals
  • Retrospective studies according to personal data protection law

Editors additionally require:

  • Stating that "Informed Consent Form" has been obtained in case presentations
  • Obtaining and stating permission from owners for the use of scales, surveys, photographs belonging to others
  • Stating that copyright regulations have been complied with for intellectual and artistic works used

Editors are responsible for rejecting work in cases where research permissions are not available.

Precautions Editors Will Take Against Possible Abuse

Editors are obliged to take precautions against possible abuse. In addition to conducting a meticulous and objective investigation regarding the determination and evaluation of complaints about this situation, sharing findings related to the subject is among the editor's responsibilities.

Editors' Ensuring Academic Publication Integrity

Editors should ensure the rapid correction of errors, inconsistencies, or misleading judgments in works.

Editors' Constructiveness and Openness to Discussion

Editors;

  • Should consider persuasive criticisms of works published in the journal and display a constructive attitude towards these criticisms.
  • Should grant the right to respond to author(s) of criticized works.
  • Should not ignore or exclude works containing negative results.

Editors' Attitude Towards Complaints

Editors are obliged to carefully examine complaints from authors, reviewers, or readers and respond in an illuminating and explanatory manner.

Editors' Attitude Towards Conflicts of Interest

Editors guarantee the independent and impartial completion of the publication process by considering conflicts of interest among author(s), reviewers, and other editors.

Ethical Responsibilities for Reviewers

The evaluation process in TAMDE is conducted according to the "Double-Blind Peer Review" principle. Reviewers cannot communicate directly with authors; evaluations and comments are conveyed to the editor through the journal management system. In this process, evaluation forms and reviewer comments on full texts are conveyed to author(s) through the editor. In this context, reviewers evaluating work for TAMDE are expected to have the following ethical responsibilities:

  • Should only accept to evaluate works related to their area of expertise.
  • Should conduct evaluations in impartiality and confidentiality.
  • If they think they are facing a conflict of interest during the evaluation process, they should refuse to review the work and inform the journal editor.
  • According to the principle of confidentiality, they should destroy the works they have examined after the evaluation process. They can only use the final versions of the works they have examined after they are published.
  • Should conduct the evaluation objectively only regarding the content of the work. Should not allow nationality, gender, religious beliefs, political beliefs, and commercial concerns to affect the evaluation.
  • Should conduct the evaluation in a constructive and kind language. Should not make degrading personal comments containing hostility, slander, and insult.
  • Should complete the work they have accepted to evaluate on time and in accordance with the above ethical responsibilities.

Ethical Responsibilities for Publisher

TAMDE editors and editorial board act with awareness of the following ethical responsibilities:

  • Editors are responsible for all processes of works submitted to TAMDE. In this framework, decision-makers are editors without considering economic or political gains.
  • Commits to creating independent editor decisions.
  • Protects the ownership and copyright of every article published in TAMDE and undertakes the obligation to keep records of every published copy.
  • Has the responsibility to take measures regarding all kinds of scientific misconduct and plagiarism related to editors.
