As the Center for Social Research enters its third year, it continues to fulfill the requirements of being a think tank. In May, we brought the scientific community together with the third annual TAM International Social Sciences Congress. During the congress, 76 scientists from different regions presented 56 papers. Our congress, held in Kaş district of Antalya, is becoming a tradition under the TAM brand and continues to contribute to the universal accumulation of knowledge. May, the most beautiful month of spring, is the period in which we showcase the results of our efforts throughout the year. Our think tank's international peer-reviewed social sciences journal, TAM Academy, meets its readers again this month with its 5th issue.
In the 1st issue of the 3rd volume of our journal, there are eight articles, one in English and seven in Turkish. Rukiye Gülerce, with her work titled "Temporary Protection Status Practices in the Context of Human Rights” in Türkiye and European Union" analyzes a highly discussed and debated topic of recent times. Gülerce examines the issue of migration and refugeehood in the context of temporary protection status and thoroughly discusses the practices in Türkiye and the European Union. Yasin Ercilsin, in his article titled "Principles of Turkish National Identity in Ziya Gökalp's Articles in Küçük Mecmua (1922-1923)" analyzes Ziya Gökalp's thoughts on topics such as history, social solidarity, modernization, and anti-imperialism within the framework of forming Turkish national identity, based on Gökalp's writings in the journal Küçük Mecmua, published in 1922. Nazif Çiftçi, in his work titled "Analyzing a Non-Fiction Text with the Political Implications of Carnival Theory: The Case of Annie Ernaux's Nobel Literature Speech" examines the speech of French writer Annie Ernaux, who won the Nobel Literature Prize in 2022, within the framework of Russian writer and thinker Mikhail Bakhtin's carnival theory. Dilan Malgaz Güçlü and Ülker Meral Çulha, in their work titled "The Relationship Between Conscious Awareness and Social Media Addiction" argue that uncontrolled social media usage significantly impairs individuals' functionality. In their study, they emphasize the importance of mindfulness in ensuring controlled use of social media and analyze the relationship between mindfulness and the level of social media usage. Selameddin Baysal, Muhammed Tosun, and Kemaleddin Taş, in their work titled "Social, Religous and Spitiual Effects of Epidemic Diseases" examine the societal and religious impacts of endemic, epidemic, and pandemic-level diseases from ancient times to the present within the context of the functional paradigm. They also analyze the religious attributions towards the Covid-19 pandemic and its effects on worship, mental, and spiritual health through psycho-social analyses. Yaşar Ayşegül Oğuz, in her article titled "The Importance of Sea Transportation in Global Supply Chains" discusses the impact of maritime transport on global trade from a wide perspective, including its advantages, reliability, environmental impacts, and technological developments. Müzeyyen Pekacar and Şerafettin Sevgili, in their article titled "The Environmental Impacts of Fast Fashion" criticize the concept of fast fashion, which refers to cheaply produced clothing made from synthetic materials lacking durability to keep prices low and produced quickly to take advantage of current fashion trends. They discuss the social and environmental impacts of the fashion industry.
